Director turned Decent
Actor Guda Ramakrishna
While not every actor is a director, every great director undoubtedly has a brilliant actor within. From legends like Dasari Narayana Rao and K. Viswanath to stalwarts like Bhagyaraja, Vijay Sethupathi, and S.J. Suryah, to modern examples like Avasarala Srinivas and Tarun Bhaskar, these personalities prove the point. Joining this illustrious list with pride and steadily working towards achieving a century of roles as an actor is director-turned-decent-actor Guda Ramakrishna.
Beginning his cinematic journey as an assistant director under Dasari Narayana Rao for the film Majnu”, Guda Ramakrishna steadily climbed the ranks despite many ups and downs. With divine blessings, he turned director with Taaraka Prabhuni Deeksha Mahimalu. His subsequent films, Sannajaji, Pellam Vachindi, and Jagadguru Sri Shirdi Saibaba, earned him recognition. Particularly, Jagadguru Sri Shirdi Saibaba was honored as the Best National Integration Film by the then united Andhra Pradesh government in 2009, fetching him the prestigious Sarojini Naidu Memorial Nandi Award for Best Director—a milestone in his career.
Being a close disciple of Dasari, Guda Ramakrishna also shares a strong bond with journalism and has carved a niche in politics, currently serving on the BJP’s campaign committee. His foray into acting began with the movie Kanche, and he went on to act in notable films like Sarrainodu, Nene Raju Nene Mantri, Chalo, Krack, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Saaho, and Godfather. Having appeared in over 70 films, he is now busy with prestigious projects like Pushpa 2, Game Changer, Rajasab, Thammudu, and Bhairavam.
Apart from his cinematic pursuits, Ramakrishna is also adept at handling real estate ventures with remarkable skill. Reflecting on his journey, he says, “As a director, I understand the struggles of producers. That’s why, if I like a role, I don’t fuss over remuneration. I even take care of my costumes myself if needed.”
He expressed immense satisfaction with his recent performance in the Manchu Lakshmi-Sanjeev Megoti film Aadiparvam. A versatile personality, he takes pride in having successfully fulfilled his responsibilities by grooming his only daughter to attempt civil services and arranging her grand wedding. Now, with personal responsibilities behind him, he has resolved to focus entirely on acting. “By God’s grace, several directors are offering me good opportunities, and my primary priority is cinema over politics and real estate,” he shares with joy!!
